EAU Confirms 2nd Annual Halloween Carnival: Whispers in the Park
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, September 18, 2012 – In its efforts to help increase local Epilepsy awareness, the Epilepsy Association of Utah (EAU) has confirmed they will hold their 2nd Annual Halloween Carnival: Whispers in the Park on October 13th at Weber State University.
“The EAU is pleased to hold numerous events throughout the year, all of which are created to encourage those living with Epilepsy to get out and experience various activities without that fear that a seizure will occur. At EAU events, we expect a seizure. And we plan for it so we take steps to help avoid known triggers,” says Annette Maughan, President of the Epilepsy Association of Utah. She further explains the reasoning behind the significance of a Halloween Carnival by stating, “Halloween is that time when we leave behind who we are and become those things we have always wanted to become -a holiday where masks conceal the person and simple costumes make heroes out of all of us. We are thinking of these masks metaphorically and we are encouraging people living with Epilepsy to show themselves for who they are, to take off their veil and show the world that they do not need a costume to be a hero.” The EAU’s goal is to emphasize to those affected by Epilepsy and to the public that seizures can be scary; yet, when someone learns how to manage a seizure, the fear is eliminated.
The fundraising carnival will include live music & entertainment, food, games, a costume parade, a cake contest, vendors and various activities for all ages. Those interested will be admitted into the carnival grounds free of admission.
